Perpetua Wood Floors, Inc. started out over 10 years ago as a one man operation with borrowed equipment and a lot of enthusiasm! At the time, I was doing finish carpentry and found installing and finishing wood floors to be an extension of the overall job of home construction.
As time has progressed, so too, has Perpetua Wood Floors. We are currently a five man crew, including myself, specializing in dustless sanding and custom flooring installations.
We separate ourselves from most flooring companies in three main areas:
First, Dustless Sanding:
From the beginning, I have been obsessed with the idea of dust containment and tried many different configurations of my own devising. Enter the Oneida Dustless Sanding System! Ingenious in its simplicity and versatility, it is used on all of our jobs, big and small. We have two complete setups. We also like to use and promote the use of low and non-toxic floor finishes. This work is our bread and butter so please don t hesitate to contact us for advice regarding your next floor refinish.
Second, Regional hard and soft woods reclaimed or otherwise:
Prior to doing floors full time I did general carpentry and built boats as a hobby. I fell in love with the woods of the west coast of the United States. This bodes well for the flooring industry and my environmental ethics, as there are a lot of choices open to you other than Eastern Oak (red and white) and maple.
We have developed good relationships with local mills and wholesale suppliers specializing in regional woods such as: Oregon Walnut, Madrone, Oregon White Oak, Myrtle wood, Tan Oak or more correctly Oregon Chestnut, Californian Black Oak, Long Leaf Maple, Yew and my favorite, Douglas Fir.These woods are a great value when you stop to consider the true life cycle cost of material shipped from thousands of miles away, not to mention supporting the local economy when your dollars stay in Oregon!
Many of these woods are FSC Certified, reclaimed / rediscovered or salvaged from old beams. Other non-west coast regional woods we have worked with, some reclaimed, some FSC certified, are: Southern Yellow Pine, Elm, Sycamore, Domestic Cherry, Reclaimed Mahogany from the Philippines, Eastern Black Walnut, Reclaimed Gymnasium Maple, Santos Mahogany, Bamboo, Brazilian Cherry, Eastern Ash, Hickory, Maple, Ipe and Tiger Wood.
Third, custom milling and on site distressing:
Based on our relationship with local mills we are able to customize your order to suit both your budget and your personal taste. We have milled flooring as wide as 8½" and as narrow as 1½". Many of the wider floors are a random selection of boards at 4,6 & 8 inches. Our on-site distressing includes everything from hand scraping or easing the edges of boards to sculpting the face of the wood to any texture you may desire. This often includes installing square plugs to help secure the wider boards. Please take a look at our gallery to see some examples. If you wish to discuss which option is better for you please contact us either through email:
